REDDITCH United have marked their 125th anniversary by launching their very own full-time academy based at the Valley Stadium.
The Redditch United Football Academy, which will be run in partnership with Bournville College, will see boys and girls study for a one or two-year BTEC (Business and Technology Education Council) qualification alongside football sessions with leading UEFA coaches.
It is hoped the academy side will compete in regional and national competitions and the students will be based at the football club, with lectures taking place in new teaching facilities.
There will be an information evening held from 7pm on Thursday, March 17 when potential students and their parents can find out more about the course.
Redditch United chairman Chris Swan said: “These are exciting times for Redditch United as we embark on a new chapter in our 125-year history.
“The Redditch United Football Academy is a major step forward for the club and the community it serves. Working with our partners at Bournville College, we will be able to provide exceptional academic and sporting facilities allowing students to either continue into higher education or into full-time football – following in the footsteps of six of our players who made that step last season.
“I would urge anyone interested in finding out about these exciting opportunities to come along on March 17 when they will be able to meet the course leaders and ask any questions they may have.”
David Faulkner, Programme Area Leader of Offsite Sport Provision at Bournville College, said: “We are delighted the new partnership with RUFC will deliver football training and sport qualifications under one roof at the Valley Stadium.
“Players will be able to progress on to the Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching delivered at Bournville College or advance into Redditch United’s senior team, so the prospects are great either way.”
