TEENAGE race ace Trystan Finocchiaro produced some spectacular high-speed performances to secure two podium positions in the sixth round of the RST Moto Aprilia Challenge.
The competition is the ideal starter pack for training young talent and its latest races took place at the vast Rockingham arena originally designed for IndyCar racing but now housing a testing two-wheeled race track with towering grandstands, providing Europe’s best spectator facilities.
Finocchiaro came to the ‘Rock’ in Northamptonshire with a proud record in junior Superteen racing – four podiums in four races in his rookie year of the highly competitive class – and high expectations he could convert this season’s promising 450 Aprilia performances into silverware.
He did not disappoint as he blasted his way to second, third and fourth.
After a small crash in race one, he was determined to redeem himself around the challenging course and so he did as he finished in fourth, third and second positions across the three races.
Afterwards a delighted Finocchiaro said: “We have been working towards the podium for a long time and have been so close on many occasions. It was only a matter of time.”
Starting from P7 on the grid, he worked his way through a high quality field in all his races, closing down five-second gaps, with the highlight being a perfect inside manoeuvre at the final bend to secure his second position.
On a track where courage, skill, patience and persistence is key to success, the Redditch rider showed all the the qualities needed to inspire the hope a top three championship finish is within reach.
Finocchiaro would like to thanks InCompetition, Transmec Group, Absolute Coutings, VF Foods, Interlink Direct, RMT Motorcycle Training, Redditch Shotblasting and James Folkard for his great support.
