REDDITCH outfit Thomas Brothers claimed the first piece of Bromsgrove & District League silverware of the season as they defeated Northfield Athletic on penalties to lift the Charity Cup.

After 90 minutes of dramatic action at Bromsgrove School on Sunday, the score was locked at 3-3 with new signing Paul Whitehead (2) and Stuart Hall on the mark for Thomas Brothers and Jon Myrie, Reece Ward and Scott Taylor netting for Athletic.

Thomas Brothers then held their nerve to come out on top as they won 4-3 on penalties.

This year’s Charity Cup was fund-raising for Libby Mae’s Little Angels and the match raised £195.

On Sunday Thomas Brothers host Belbroughton Athletic – the only team to beat Brothers last season – in their opening game of the Premier Division season at Fairfield Villa.
