‘Perfect’ finale leaves Beaumont elated

SCOTT Beaumont produced the perfect performance against the odds to add the HSBC UK National 4X Series crown to his national title.

The USN Racing rider went into the sixth and final round in Redhill, Gloucestershire, knowing only victory in every race would be enough to overtake Kustom Bikes’ Declan Willicombe and he delivered when it mattered.

“The chances of me being able to win the overall title were slim but mathematically possible,” said Beaumont. “I had to win every race and rely on other riders finishing outside the top three.”

Redditch racer Beaumont had the ideal start, winning all three of his qualifying races to send a clear message to the other Pro Elite riders that he meant business. His hopes improved too when his three title rivals all bowed out in the semi-finals.

In the final, the 40-year-old led into the first berm and never looked back, eventually extending his lead and comfortably crossing the line ahead of Connor Hudson in second and Alex Metcalfe in third.

It was enough to win on the day and take the series title and continue a run which had brought him seventh place in the World 4X Championships and a ninth national title.

“In the final I made a perfect start and managed to win the race, leading from start to finish. It was the perfect end to an amazing year,” said Beaumont. “After winning the 4X National Championships two weeks ago, being able to win the overall series title is incredible.”

Beaumont’s next race will be the BMX National Series in Leicester at the end of September when he will be looking for a strong result to qualify for the 2019 BMX World Championships.
