REDDITCH RFC secured a first league win since September with a 28-7 victory away at rivals Bromsgrove III.
The Kingfishers ended a run of 11 straight league defeats after the club saw their only victory this season expunged from the record after Kidderminster Carolians 2nds withdrew from the league.
Both Stu Brookes and Jack Mertens crossed twice for the Kingfishers while Will Spires added eight points from the kicking tee in a bonus point victory.
Bromsgrove committed a series of infringements early on before Brookes took a quick tap penalty and forced his way over the line to score the game’s first try.
The visitors remained on top as Mertens dotted down the away side’s second try to put Redditch into a 10-point lead.
Bromsgrove then lost a player to the sin-bin for a high tackle as Spires kicked a penalty to stretch the away side’s advantage.
And the Boars then committed a deliberate knock-on which allowed Spires to kick his second penalty of the game and send the Kingfishers into the break with a 16-point lead.
Redditch lost Mark Green to the sin-bin for a high tackle inside the opening minute of the second half before Bromsgrove lost another player to the sin-bin later in the half for the same offence.
And the Kingfishers made the most of the man advantage to score a third try as Mertens touched down and Spires kicked the conversion.
The away side kept Bromsgrove at bay as Rory Allen and Harry Rutter produced try-saving tackles to keep the Boars scoreless.
And Brookes barged his way over to score Redditch’s bonus point try after he took another quick tap penalty.
However, Bromsgrove eventually troubled the scoreboard moments later from a quick tap penalty of their own.
Redditch are next in action against Malvern II on Saturday, March 21 with kick-off at 3pm at Bromsgrove Road.
