JOSE Marquez admits his loan spell at Alvechurch has given him the confidence and freedom to launch his career.

Marquez scored six goals in as many games for Church and signed off with a hat-trick against Leamington in the FA Cup.

The 19-year-old has now returned to parent club Forest Green Rovers who ply their trade in the National League.

Rovers boss Robbie Savage heaped praise on the youngster after he scored a goal and provided two assists for Forest Green against Wolverhampton Wanderers under-21s in midweek.

And Marquez could make his first team debut for Forest Green against Woking this weekend.

The young forward also thanked Alvechurch for providing him with a platform to showcase his talent over the last month.

Marquez said: “Things have changed pretty quickly.

“The opportunity to go and play for Alvechurch was brilliant.

“I played minutes that I didn’t get at the start of the season.

“To go there and play as much as football as I can and score goals and do well for the team was really good.

“To come back to Forest Green and score was enjoyable.

“Going to Alvechurch and getting momentum, scoring a hat-trick in the FA Cup, gave me confidence and freedom.

“I’ve still got a lot to prove. I want to work as hard as I can and prove myself and earn my shirt.”
